Edible Paint

August 19, 2019

There are lots of different ways to make edible paint but I wanted to try to make it with fresh ingredients today to incorporate my youngest in this activity. Using fresh fruits and veggies and purees I was able to create an edible paint. This dye-free 2-ingredient paint is taste-safe for toddlers and babies. Check out how to make your own below!

What Is Edible Paint Made Of?

I remember doing this activity back when I worked at a Montessori school using only two ingredients. Fresh veggies and/or fruit, mixed with plain Greek yogurt. So yes, this recipe does contain dairy. I’m really happy with how it turned out and my kids really enjoyed it as well!

How To Make Edible Paint

I used three fruits and one veggie in three different ways and got the same “paint-like” texture to the ingredients. I used, fresh spinach for the green, fresh blueberries for purple, frozen strawberries for pink, and pumpkin puree baby food for orange and added some Greek yogurt to each one. So any way you prepare it fresh, frozen, or puree, seems to work for this recipe. It was really simple to put together and easy to remember even from years ago.

Here are some more activities for baby AND toddler:

The boys definitely enjoyed the bright colors and taste of all the flavors…. minus the spinach but that’s expected. Finding safe alternatives for toddlers and babies is important because of how much harmful toxins and ingredients companies like to put in things these days. It’s easy to find anything online now and you can find so many ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle even in your activities.
