Today’s art craft we used a re-purposed probably the most used household item, the paper towel roll. If you’re crafty or do activities with your kids already you may have these stocked up. If you are just getting started with arts and crafts, start storing them away for future crafts and activities. That’s how I came up with this paint with a re-purpose activity. These rolls can be used in so many ways and once you start saving items like these throughout your house, you’ll come up with many ideas of your own.

Fun Facts About This Activity

This painting tool can also be a teaching activity for learning shapes. Theodore had a lot of fun decorating his belly with circles. I like to incorporate lessons with my activities and crafts because the earlier you start teaching your kids the more knowledge they will absorb. I’m starting preschool at home next year with Theodore so establishing good routines and planned activities is getting him ready to start school.

I used the primary colors for both my two-year-old and 10 month old. If you put small dots of paint on a half sheet of paper in a Ziplock bag and tape it to the table, your baby can be included in the same activity as well! It’s never too early to start teaching your kids. Early childhood education is important in so many ways and if you’re a stay at home parent, it’s up to you to be their educator most of the time.

What’s really cool about this art craft is that you get to re-purpose something that’s usually tossed in the trash. This is a great way to get some use out of toilet paper, or paper towel rolls. Using the muffin tin tray helps separate the colors and painting “utensils” and it is easy to wash out afterward.

Doing activities like this challenges your kids fine motor skills and any day you can encourage art is a good day! As you can see I was able to incorporate my youngest just by tweaking the activity a little, that way he could work with primary colors like his big brother.

The end results were really pretty and I decided I would keep them. This is why I love activities and crafts, they are always so unique and special! I always remind people of the importance of sitting down with your child to do these kinds of activities. They will absolutely love it and quality time with your little ones are priceless.
