Thanksgiving Fine Motor Activity

November 5, 2020

Today we did a Thanksgiving fine motor activity using a turkey worksheet I created with Canva. You can use this worksheet in more than just way and today we used a few different materials and had tons of fun! Practicing fine motor skills can help your child master the pincer grasp later used in school when they start learning how to write.

What You Need

We created two different activities using this turkey worksheet. Using do-a-dots and pom-poms you can do painting with the do-a-dots or you can use tongs and pom-poms to transfer and match the colors. You can download this turkey worksheet for free at the bottom of the page. Remember to subscribe for future free themed worksheets from my blog!

Do-A-Dot Turkey Activity

This is such a fun activity for toddlers as they are learning to hold things in their hands better and focus on where their crayon, marker, or painting utensil end up on the paper. You can find many different themed worksheets that you can download for free online or make your own with Canva for free.

If they are new to these markers show them how to press their marker down on the paper. Show them how to slowly make their way to each circle and press down to fill them up. Most importantly let them take the lead because it’s about the process and letting them master skills independently rather than turning their artwork into a lecture.

When introducing new activities I always like to show how to do it first. Show them step by step on how to use the materials given and also how to be safe with them. (Especially with pointy tongs and scissors.) Then let them explore on their own and only intervene when they ask for help. I do like to go over the colors they see and maybe talk about the specific theme, in this case talking about turkeys.
