Fall Leaf Painting

August 22, 2020

There are so many different things you can use as painting utensils and it’s fun to offer new ones every time to make it more engaging for toddlers. This Fall Leaf Painting activity is perfect for the seasons changing and fun to do with a sibling or mom and dad.

The seasons are already changing with school back in session and the leaves falling to the ground. We still have many green trees around here in Tennessee but some are losing their color and dropping. This activity was inspired by Glued To My Crafts and I had to do it with my boys!

This quick and easy to prep activity is great for those who like something fast to direct to their toddlers and be engaged for a long time. It’s great to talk to your toddler about what seasons are and the different colors they will likely see going into Fall.

  3. Painting Ice
  4. Color Sorting
  5. Flower Play

Theodore and Wesley chose to use different ends to paint with. Wesley used his to stamp and Theodore used his broccoli to smear the paint at times. I love the process of art and the direction children take each art project.

This activity is great for:

  • Color Recognition (Learning the colors of Autumn and ask your child to repeat them back to you.)
  • Eye-Hand Coordination (Transferring the broccoli with their pincer grasp from the paint to the paper and pushing down on the branches.)
  • Fine Motor Skills (Using their fingers to pinch the broccoli.)
  • Learning About Seasons (Talk about the 4 different seasons and what colors we are going to expect to see.)

Materials + Guide

  1. Paper
  2. Marker
  3. Paint
  4. Broccoli

Draw a tree on some paper (Or print out a tree without leaves). Have your child use the broccoli to stamp “leaves” on the tree branches. Let them explore with the paint and mixing the colors to create Autumn leaves on the tree.

Make it a GREEN Summer!
