Rainbow Rice Sensory Bin

January 29, 2020

This week is going to be a color-themed week at our house. My toddlers are showing interest in learning their colors so it was a perfect opportunity to start this week off with a rainbow rice sensory bin. This bright and colorful, taste safe activity is great for toddlers and they love scooping and pouring all the wonderful little grains of rice.

What Do I Need To Make Rainbow Rice?

This simple activity is so easy to make with little prep work. You really only need a few things to create this colorful sensory bin for your kids. Make sure to include your child while mixing up the colors with the rice they love being big helpers during this process. Here is what you’ll need to make rainbow rice:

  • Rice
  • Food coloring
  • Vinegar

  • Container/Bin For Rice

What Is My Child Learning In This Activity?

Something as simple as rainbow rice can still be educational in many ways. Things such as using senses, fine motor, color recognition, memory building skills, scooping/pouring/ transferring skills and imagination.

  • Senses (Feeling the rice, seeing the colors, smell the vinegar on the rice, hearing the sound of rice move around)
  • Fine Motor Skills (Using their fingers to grasp the scoops and dishes)
