Alphabet Search Sensory Bin

January 29, 2020

As your toddler gets older they will put fewer things in their mouth; you can start to incorporate smaller objects in their activities at this stage. Today I put together an alphabet search sensory bin full of fun ways to explore the different textures, items, and tools in the bin.

What Materials Do I Need For This Sensory Bin?

Finding different ways to challenge your child during activities in a fun way can be easy to do and inexpensive as well. I found most of the materials from this alphabet search sensory bin at Walmart and Dollar Tree. I always go to stores like these for sensory bin fillers and little cute cheap seasonal items to the bin in my children’s sensory bins.

  • Big Rocks (Dollar Tree)
  • Little Rocks (Dollar Tree)
  • Alphabet Magnets (Dollar Tree)
  • Foam Letters (Dollar Tree)
  • Magnet Wand (Amazon)
  • Stainless Steel Mini Pans (Amazon)
  • Grasping Tool (Walmart)

How To Get The Most Out Of This Activity

Allowing your child to work with their senses and using more than one aids in their development in so many ways. Your child may focus on scooping on pouring the rocks, line the big rocks up, use the magnet wand to explore what letters will stick and which ones won’t. There are many ways to explore sensory bins and that’s why I love them so much. Some things your child may focus on may be:

  • Senses (Seeing the letters and colors, feeling different textures of rocks and letters, hear the rocks and letters move around the bin)
  • Transferring/pouring/scooping skills (Using the magnet tool, using the dishes to pour and scoop, and the grasping tool to pick up items)
  • Fine Motor Skills (Using their fingers to pick up small objects)
  • Color Recognition (Searching for the colorful letters in the bin)
  • Science (Working with magnets and learning what will stick to the magnet wand and what will not)
  • Language Skills (Using the Alphabet to learn the letters and sounds they form)
