Down By The Shore Sensory Bin

August 27, 2019

When you cant go to the beach, bring the beach home! This activity was based on some materials I had lying around the house such as buckets and seashells of my old wedding decorations! This is how I came up with this down by the shore sensory bin. A beach theme seemed necessary despite all the rain here in Tennessee. I wanted to create a beach theme activity full of shells and sand/rocky type beach textures.

Where Can I Find Materials For This Sensory Bin?

With some dried rice and dried black-eyed peas, a rocky shore beach feel was created for this activity. Click here for a list of sensory bin fillers. It’s always great to find developmental and inexpensive activities for your kids that are so much fun.

We have actually not had a chance to take our boys to the ocean yet so it was fun to introduce a beach theme sensory bin for Theodore. This is an activity we did while baby brother was sleeping. Theo really enjoyed filling up the seashells and using the funnels to fill the buckets.

Benefits Of Sensory Play

There are so many benefits to sensory play. In the early years, children rely on their senses for everything. It helps with things like fine motor skills, memory enhancement, patience, hand-eye coordination, and so many others. Mixing up other sensory bins will allow them to explore different textures and come up with more creative ways to play and learn at the same time.

What Is Child Led Play

Let your child take the lead with the activities you give to them. Children love to master skills and if you give them space (space as in learning without being directed but always under supervision with small objects of course) to learn they become more independent and enhance their development even further.
