DIY Valentine’s Day Sorting Activity

February 12, 2020

You can find so many ways to reuse containers and other household items for art crafts and activities. Today we reused an oatmeal container for this DIY Valentine’s Day sorting activity. I like to find easy simple activities that will keep my toddlers engaged for long periods of time. This activity is also great for building developmental skills as well.

How Do I Make This DIY Valentine’s Day Sorting Activity?

You will only need a few things for this sorting activity. First, you will need a container (I used an oatmeal container). Next, you will need to cut a slot out of the lid of the container. You can add construction paper and heart cutouts to decorate the container but this is totally optional.

  • Oatmeal Container (Or any you have)
  • Knife to cut slot
  • Construction paper (optional for decoration)
  • Glue or tape for paper

Why Is Repetition Important?

Not only is repetition important for development, but children also love to master skills or activities they are working on. Although it may be tedious to read that one book over and over again or help rebuild that tower your child likes to knock down 10+ times, this repetition is actually really good for them. These types of activities are great for children to build skills to help further their development even more. They also love you taking the time to sit with them to do it too.
